A global leader in the energy arena
The board of directors for TXOGA made the appointment official Thursday morning. News that Staples would take over the association first broke Wednesday evening.
Staples, the Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, ran unsuccessfully for the GOP nomination for lieutenant governor earlier this year.
Staples takes over the lobbying group at a time when the energy industry is booming, producing oil at levels not seen since the mid-1980s.
"The world is watching as Texas cements its place as a global leader in the energy arena," Staples said. "I'm humbled to have been selected to work with TXOGA's dedicated staff to represent this membership."
Staples will take over in January for Looney, who is retiring after 26 years with TXOGA. He touted the success of oil and gas in Texas when he visited the Greater Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce earlier this year.
