Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the idea of two brothers Koop and ray Ferwerda. The excavator was created In the 1940's throughout World War II, when there was a shortage of workers. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted labor force because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Dallas construction business called Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the available workers in order to do the delicate tasks of finishing and grading on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to build a machine that would save their company by making the slope grading job easier, more efficient and less manual.
Their first design model was a machine with two beams set on a rotating platform which was affixed on top of a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams forward and backward which enabled the fixed blade at the end of the beams to push or pull dirt. Shortly improving the very first design, the brothers built a triangular boom in order to add more strength. As well, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom turn 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the equipment to be outfitted with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
Gradall introduced in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most innovative adjustment in their equipment since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to provide high productivity and comparable power to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the first Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These conventional systems successfully handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their lifting and digging ability. These models were manufactured along with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed great improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was also developed together with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators use an operator to pick a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the job at hand. This makes the operator's general work easier and likewise saves fuel simultaneously.
When their XL Series hydraulics became available, Gradall was basically thrust into the highly competitive market of machines meant to tackle demolition, pavement removal, excavating and various industrial tasks. Marketability was further improved with their telescoping boom due to its exclusive ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
